2022 was a year full of recognitions for Funaro, the organic winery from Trapani owned by siblings Tiziana, Clemente, and Giacomo.
Founded in 2003 with the aim of enhancing the grapes grown in the family vineyards, today Funaro is an established name in the Italian wine scene, known for the quality of its labels and its strong commitment to environmental sustainability. The grapes are rigorously cultivated organically using modern cultivation and production methods, resulting in wines that express the terroir with a contemporary vision.
This perfect combination has been recognized by both national and international critics, awarding various honors in 2022. Closing the year was the special mention of “La foglia d’oro” by Guida Bio for the Spumante Metodo Classico Extra Brut 2018, made with Chardonnay grapes, and Omnis 2019, Nero d’Avola. The same award had been given earlier in 2022 to the Metodo Classico Brut 2018 and the 2018 vintage of Omnis. Omnis, one of the standout wines of 2022, was also included in the “Vini Buoni d’Italia” 2023 guide in the “Must-Try Wines” section with the highest rating of 4 stars and received the “Top Wine” award from the Slow Wine 2023 guide.
White wines also feature prominently in Cantina Funaro’s accolades. Foremost among them is Pinzeri, an organic Grillo, recognized for its complexity and rich aromas.
Pinzeri scored 91 points at the 5 StarWine contest organized by Vinitaly, one of the most important fairs in the wine sector, and won the Gold Medal at the Concours Mondial de Bruxelles, an independent competition involving blind tastings of thousands of bottles from around the world.
Among competitions dedicated to organic and biodynamic wines, Pinzeri won the Grand Gold Medal at the BiodiVino contest and was the only Sicilian white wine to achieve this distinction!
Among the whites, Passo di Luna also stood out, scoring 90 points in the latest edition of 5 StarWine.
Not only were the wines among the award winners, but the winery itself was recognized for its work in organic farming, vineyard management, and the excellent quality-to-price ratio of its wines.
Funaro was included in the “Guida ai Vini di Sicilia 2023” by Slow Wine for the Giornale di Sicilia and received the “coin” recognition from the Slow Wine 2023 guide.
